The Holy Rosary Parish of
Nedlands
The Parish of Holy Rosary, Nedlands was established in 1931.
Regular parishioners number around 400, although the number of non-practicing or occasional Mass-goers is far
higher.
In
addition to the parish church, there are two other Mass Centres within the parish - the
Carmelite Monastery (Nedlands) and St Thomas Moore
(Crawley).
Families have settled in the area for a number of generations
and tend to be well-educated, with a range of professions represented. The University of Western Australia
campus which is within the parish borders brings with it many lecturers and
students.
While the parish has a good number of faithful seniors, there
is no lack of young families and young people. One of the challenges for the parish is the formation of the
young people who have left school or are in the last years of schooling. Another is to reach out to "lost
sheep" or those who are faraway from the Church.
The parish has strong ties with the Loreto Primary Catholic School which is
located near the parish church. The Loreto children often help with serving and singing at the parish
church.
The parish also hosts a number of activities which include the Parish
Council, the St Vincent de Paul Society, the Finance Committee, the Christian Meditation Group, the Prayer Group,
the Bible Study Group, the liturgy and the music at Mass music, the work of the acolytes and special ministries,
the rosary after morning Mass, the work of "Friends", the Catholic Women's League, the RCIA (Towards Catholicism),
the World Day of Prayer, support and work of chaplains in non-Catholic schools, the work of catechists in the
sacramental programme and the efforts of the social team. There is also a support outreach to the Sisters at Three
Springs.
The parish has a very friendly face. It enjoys valuable support and
contributions from many of its parishioners.
